Allen West's group goes to bat for Young Marines over prayer issue | Sunshine State News
Former Congressman Allen West went to bat on Monday for the Young Marines, a program being run by the Bossier Parrish sheriff’s office in Louisiana. The Young Marines were threatened with having federal funds cut off due to their inclusion of prayers in their activities. The Foundation gave the Young Marines $2,000.
“This is exactly the type of organization the Allen West Foundation will continue to support -- despite the efforts of the DOJ to stop programs like the Young Marines,” West posted on Facebook on Monday. “In June, Bossier, La., Sheriff Julian Whittington was notified his decade-old Young Marines program would lose $15,000 in federal funding unless he pledged in a letter that ‘no prayer or mention of God would be allowed’ during program activities. Whittington refused and support has been flowing in. The Allen West Foundation is delighted to stand with Sheriff Whittington and the Young Marines.”
