(10:07, Thursday, July 25, 2013)
Ukraine and NATO intend to sign an agreement on reburial of radioactive wastes after military programs of the USSR, press service of the Cabinet of Ministers has said. Respective resolution was adopted at the meeting of the Ukrainian government on Wednesday, July 24. Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Oleh Proskuriakov is authorized to sign the agreement.
The signing of the agreement would create legal grounds for taking measure on reburial of radioactive wastes at the expense of international technical assistance to be provided by NATO member countries. The measures are aimed at the dampening of threat of potential spread of the wastes and their detrimental effect on the environment.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in April, NATO denied necessity for the attraction of EUR 25 million to finance the implementation of the second phase of disposal of ammunition in the frames of the Partnership for Peace NATO's Trust Fund.
